If Im fishing close to the boat, say targeting fish around a bluegill bed or a mayfly hatch, Ill go with 20-pound monofilament because the line stretches and is more forgiving on bites close to the boat, where braided line might simply rip though a fish or even bend the hooks out

We also catch a lot of sturgeon this way, maybe even a walleye

* **Inspect and maintain**: Periodically inspect your backpack for wear and tear, and make repairs as needed to ensure optimal performance

If an angler is looking for an all-round competition feeder rod which is very sensitive, casts well and provides a beautiful fish playing action: the x7 Distance Feeder is the one to go for.

What depth will you be fishing, and what size Jig Heads and/or Weights will you need to drop down to the bottom
